John Kokko, L.Ac.
& Clinical Herbalist
"Kokko" is a name I inherited from my step-father, which translates as "the phoenix that rises out of the summer-solstice bonfire" in Finnish. With that name, I hope to spark some joy in my patients and in this work, which I love.
My mother is Korean and our family name is "Lim", which means "grove of trees". The character of two trees standing next to each other represents a community growing together in nourishing life.
On our island named Sun-yu-do in the Yellow Sea, my great-grandmother was a traditional herbalist. She found wild Korean ginseng roots in the mountains and lived to almost 100! Today, I hope to continue this humble legacy.

Along with busy clinical practices and teaching at various acupuncture colleges for a decade, I've also led hundreds of acupuncturists to pass their state and national licensing boards. My own teachers include many of the top orthopedic and classical acupuncture and herbal medicine practitioners in the country.
In my free time, I love sharing the art of tea, making music with my daughter, playing chess with my son and doing Qigong in nature. My passion is translating the depth of the medicine into practice, with a commitment to your core well-being. I look forward to working with your unique goals.
